Admittedly, I did this piece during a time when I was really struggling with depression and keeping my head above water. I think that is obvious by my expression. I did not intend for this piece to convey that . However, art has a funny way of speaking for me when I am afraid to. The background is filled with journal entries from my college years. I chose this as a background because that makes this piece an inverted self-portrait. Most portraits simply display the exterior. This piece also gives the viewer the interior thoughts as well.
